Short description / Book summary (www.goodreads.com): Throw away your console - JumpMan has arrived!

In three thousand years' time we'll be living on Mars, going SolarBlading, and every kid will have a JampMan - the gadget that lets you travel through time. Want to see a decent war up close or check out Cleopatra's hairstyles? Just set the JumpMan and press go.

Theo Pine's just a typical kid from the future but he's won a major competition to be the first to use the new JumpMan Pro. This is the definitive account of its disastrous launch, of Theo's adventures in our time, and of the brave efforts made to rescue and return him to the future.

Welcome to a world where you can go anywhen you like!

My Thoughts: I wouldn't have thought that stories about people stuck in our time from the future, like the ones they show on cartoon channels today, could actually be interesting. I picked up JumpMan to try out  such a theme and could not put it down till i read the whole book.

Apart from the obvious child-like twists and turns to the story, James Valentine's writing is extremely hilarious and profound. The thinking that has gone into the concepts of time to make this story work is excellent and almost believable, if such inventions were really true. My most favorite part of the book is the notions on the past, present and the future, that are apt and sensible, and philosophically arousing.

JumpMan is a salad of the Jetsons and Hitchiker's Guide with it's own garnishing and flavours. Children should be preoccupied with this book.

Characters: Theodore Pine, Genevieve, Jules, Quincy Carter
My rating of the book: ***
