Short description / Book summary (www.goodreads.com): Darke things are hapenning. A shadow is following the ExtraOrdinary Wizard, growing more solid and less shadowy every day. Then the princess is snatched, kidnapped from under the noses of the palace guard. It seems nothing can keep evil necromancer Dom Daniel from his pursuit of power - ever his own death, and Septimus must summon every ounce of courage and cunning to try and outwit him and his treacherous followers, before it's too late.

My Thoughts: As with all children's fiction these days, the plots are just too overdrawn to fit in one single book. Therefore, we have Book Two of the Septimus Heap series. I must admit that reading through this one felt as though I had just not completed the first. As with Book one, the plot seems broken and not bound tightly together. The book does not account for a lot of happenings and refuses to take each scene upto the point of climax. Before you know it, you have either guessed what is to come or are dissapointed with the unfolding of events.

It must be said that though the book merely seems like a continuation from where one leaves off from the first, as the first itself does not fully close its sequences, it is not as enticing as its former. Angie Sage seems to have dragged on unwillingly from book to book. Even some of Mark Zug's illustrations seem to have been lifted off the previous book out of boredom to create more.

Nevertheless, the book is a better read than the rubbish children read these days, if, that is, they read. Keep an eye out for small lessons in the book and for the illustrations if you are not already bored with them in the first.
